HAPPY NATIONAL DAY FELLOW SINGAPOREANS!

Attended NP's National Day Celebration yesterday. Definitely better than NC's National Day Celebrations. But but but.... I began reminiscing those times in red cross. Parade commanding & footdrill, I really miss those times in Red Cross. (bf says I walk with the "footdrill" style, he always laughs at it) Hmm. Might join VI course end of this year. I love Red Cross. (: Hopefully.. VI camp don't clash with CT!

So, last night I was watching the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony... 08/08/08, 8:08pm. Its also dubbed as "High-tech Olympics"

The Bird's Nest

They say thats how you get the Beijing Olympics Logo:

Hmm. I'm wondering if the hotels have this in the toilet?

Fireworks from the stadium, marking the opening of Beijing Olympics 2008.

This is what I call synchronising. A few thousand, without any melody or whatsoever, & they could sychronise even better than any performance of NDP.

Look at the way they march....... Its cute. But its really straight too.

Hmm?

These people are.. woah. I bet the thing they're holding is freaking heavy.

Ok, this was really good. I swear.

Famous Chinese gymnast & entrepreneur, Li Ning completing the final Olympic Torch Relay. The scroll unrolling at this point kind of screwed up though. Dad said the fellow in-charge is so so so dead, since the Chinese are real perfectionist.

For a moment, I feared for him. The fire looked/was huge.

JANG JANG! Olympic Cauldron lit.

Fireworks display. The night's fireworks must have cost a bomb.

The performers... the synchronisation & the formation, I would say its 100 times better than any uniform group parade/performance in Singapore. They formed ultra uber straight lines, & thats with a freaking few thousand people. Those who missed it, you have got to watch the repeat telecast! If there is anymore other than this morning 6am & last night 11:30pm...

The incorporation of all the high tech features, its no wonder that it costs so much. & in order to make sure that rain don't dampen Olympics Opening, Beijing mobilised all its science and engineering capability, including satellite monitoring and cloud seeding, to prevent rain from spoiling the extensively expected Olympic opening ceremony. WOW that.

.
Numbers, Olympic Ceremony:
- $100 million: A low estimate for the cost of the opening ceremony. That's about $476,000 per minute and almost $8,000 per second and more than twice the cost of the 2004 Athens opening ceremony
- 35,000: The number of fireworks set off during the ceremony.
- 2,583: The number of lights used during the show, drawing 6,440 kilowatts
- 91,000: The number of spectators at National Stadium

.
Dad told me that tickets for the Opening Ceremony for the VIP gallery(6/cabin) was RMB 180,000. ie. SGD 36,889.70.... Dad was saying if his father was still around, he'll be really proud. I feel proud too, having China roots. My grandparents, my Dad, feel proud too. Having stayed & studied in China for 2-3 years, & going back every year for 9 years odd after that... I kinda feel embarrased now that I have such bad Chinese standard. Its time for me to improve my Chinese standard, & one of these days, I'll be returning to China. I shall show the photo of my house in Shanghai last time soon. Aye. Those memories............ I just love them. I love my childhood. Its weird huh. Being a Singaporean, & its National Day, I'm blogging about China instead. =/

.
Last but not least, I shall end off with a random picture.

I want my papaya salad!
